The Untold Story Of Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Star Wars’ Christmas Song

Before becoming Jon Bon Jovi, global rock star, John Bongiovi was one of the thousands of aspiring musicians in the New York area looking for a break. In 1980, he made his debut recorded a somewhat unfavorably, singing in a "Christmas album Star Wars' theme.

The CBC has compiled what they call the "story first orally" Christmas in the stars. Star Wars Christmas Album ', "which includes a section on the participation of Bon Jovi It started when the owner of the powerhouse Tony Bongiovi and Meco were looking to continue the success they had with disco cover of 'Star Wars'. When 'The Empire Strikes Back' hit theaters, got permission from creator George Lucas to make a Christmas album.

At that time, Tony was also doing what they could to help the career of his young cousin get off the ground, so he hired him hoping to give him part of the exhibition. "I knew it would sell," Bongiovi said. "So he sang it. If you have a hit, then you can turn around and say, 'Hey, this album is a success, we'll turn around and made him sign' ... But that's how it ended on that track. "

The song, which can be heard above is called, "R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas' and had the future leader of Bon Jovi and AA children's choir softly singing a Christmas cheer for Android.

However, the plan did not go as hoped Tony. On the eve of the release of the album, RSO Records went out of business. This meant that his career is limited to the first pressing of 150,000 copies, cale commercial momentum.

Tony Award-winning composer Maury Yeston, who was a few years away from a hit Broadway with "Nine," he wrote most of the material, but added that Meco wrote 'R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas' and Bon Jovi wrote "the odds against Christmas". Yeston recalled working with the young singer, stating: "I always thought I'm not the only one who could be blackmailed by this album."

When Bon Jovi Met Michael Jackson: ‘He Couldn’t Have Been Nicer’

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the death and media Michael Jackson around the world are remembering the legacy meets the pop star left behind.

The Hollywood Reporter has published an excerpt from the new book by author Zach O'Malley, Michael Jackson, Inc.: The Rise, fall, and Rebirth of an Empire Billion Dollar containing a story that recounts the first meeting of Bon Jovi with the king of pop.

In 1987 the Jersey side was in the highest point of his career and happens to be in Tokyo, while Jackson was performing a three sold-out nights at the 135000-capacity Korakuem Stadium. Only luck, they were also living together in the same hotel. BJ manager Frank Dileo held a follow-up meeting between the two musical forces and was as rare as you can imagine:

The hotel was shaped like a hand, palm containing an elevator bank. The fingers radiating outwards, to each his own wing with multiple rooms; on the top floor, one wing was cut by Jackson and his inner circle.

Dileo took Bon Jovi and his bandmates down a long hallway to the bedroom of the singer, pausing to slick back his hair and off his cigarette before opening the door.

"The room had been torn to shreds and redecorated,"
says Bon Jovi. "They put mirrors on the wall so [Jackson] could practice their dance and a wooden dance floor there. Y took over a wing of the hotel. Needless to say, spending money that was not really a problem. "

Jackson then entered the room of his signature all black attire and his Bad Tour rockers tried to impress him with stories of fame:

The Jersey rockers, fresh from a series of concerts in Australia - and new traps to Superstar - Jackson immediately began regaling with tales of his trip. They were so big Down Under, who told him he had to buy wigs and false mustaches to avoid paparazzi; the only way out of the hotel was in a laundry truck. Jackson smiled and nodded; never disclose the fact that he had been doing the same since his Jackson 5 days.

"So we made small talk and he could not have been better," says Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi invited Jackson to hang out in your hotel room, but Jackson did not show up. Instead, he sent some entertainment to take their place for the night: Bubbles the chimp.

"We proceeded to get drunk, have plenty of water fights, knocking on doors, things typical classic rock star to do in the eighties," Bon Jovi says. "And [we] blamed it all on the bubble."

"We were having a blast two floors down with bubbles, and he was there practicing her dance," says Bon Jovi. "While we were being goofballs and enjoy our success, which was practicing even after the shows, because I was so focused ultra-über be Michael Jackson.'s Blessing was the curse."

Dolly Parton Explains Her New Gospel Cover Of Bon Jovi's 'Lay Your Hands On Me'

Dolly Parton launches album 42, Blue Smoke, on 13 May, and a song on the track list may surprise”. Lay Your Hands on Me" , a cover of Bon Jovi's 1988 hit

" I 've always liked the song, but the first time I heard it - because I grew up in a Pentecostal church , where people believe in healing hands and laying his hands on someone - I just thought , " Wow , that would make a great gospel song, " Parton tells EW .

Still, she knew sexualized lyrics need a bit of updating. " You cannot take liberties with the song people do not run them, so I contacted Jon and Richie Sambora , who wrote the song together , and asked : " I would love to do this as a gospel song , would and 'all help me to put that together? ' They were all for him, and everyone threw in their small ideas, and threw me on my own, "she says.

How did the children feel about the final version? "They were excited about it. Indeed, Richie was in one of my programs in Australia [in February]. He went crazy when I did it on stage in front of the audience. He had his video manager on your tiny phone or whatever. Said that just play again and again. That made me feels good, "says Parton.” And Jon wrote a real nice note he liked the way it turned out. "
